Chiropractic Manipulative Therapy – CMT
CMT, otherwise know as the adjustment or joint manipulation is what many consider to be at the core of Chiropractic. CMT is a very unique and powerful tool. An adjustment has multiple effects on a joint, surrounding tissues and the whole nervous system. For example, one of the most powerful effects of an adjustment is its ability to decrease pain. When something hurts, the pain receptors in our nervous system can become sensitized and more active than usual. An adjustment has been show to decrease the hypersensitivity of pain receptors, meaning it can decrease pain.
An adjustment also improves joint motion. Over time, if we do not use our full range of movement, our joints can become stiff and restricted. This can happen quickly, after an injury or slowly such as with a sedentary lifestyle. The adjustment improves the range of motion of the joints and causes a reflex relaxation of the muscles around that joint, reducing joint compression and wear and tear. Improved movement also leads to improved signaling by the thousands of nerve receptors in the joints. This means the body’s self awarness (known as proprioception) is improved, allowing for better control and movement overall. Many chiropractors only adjust the joints of the spine.
At Progressive Chiropractic, we are trained to adjust the extremity joints as well as the joints of the spine. From the toes to the hip and the fingers to the shoulder, joint restrictions here are no different to those in the spine. Need to schedule an appointment? Click Here. Functional rehabilitation is based on deficiencies or dysfunctions that have been detected during your movement assessment. It consists of exercises that get your body to move in ways in which it was designed to move, to correct dysfunctional patterns or habits of movement. It is used to improve overall function, so your body can heal faster, perform better, and be more resilient to injury in the future.
Often, day to day activities, like sitting for hours at the computer and car, or even what we might be doing at the gym can cause harm in the way of muscle or joint overload, giving rise to faulty, dysfunctional movement. Functional Rehabilitation is used to negate the effects of these activities and forms one of the centerpieces of our treatment approach.
We can only work with you for a certain amount of time each week. So, it’s vital that you reinforce our treatment with rehab on your own. Need to schedule an appointment? Click Here. We’d love to be your Sydney Chiropractor.
Dry Needling + Cupping
Dry needling is used as part of a complete treatment. By itself, it is used to normalise tone in muscles and the nervous system, improve circulation, encourage remodeling of scar tissue, and moderate pain. It is useful for almost any musculoskeletal problem that could be addressed with manual therapy. We use the Integrated Dry Needling approach. MORE…
We combine the ancient technique of cupping therapy with modern day science at Progressive Chiropractic for amazing results. Cupping is a form of myofascial release that has been used for thousands of years, and proven effective for generations.
The vacuum in the cups puts negative, decompressive pressure on the tissues below releasing adhesions and improving blood flow. Cupping also improves lymphatic drainage, allowing swelling to drain away which improves recovery. Need to schedule an appointment? Click Here. We’d love to be your Sydney Chiropractor.
The Kinesio Taping method was developed by Chiropractor Dr. Kenzo Kase over 25 years ago in Japan. Kinesio® Tape provides extended soft tissue manipulation to prolong the benefits of manual therapy administered in the athletic training room or physical therapy clinic. The results are increased fluid flow through an injured area, better control over muscle contractions, reduced pain, and ultimately faster healing. This effect is modulated and coordinated by the nervous system by specifically stimulating the sensory motor system.
Kinesio tape can used for many different musculoskeletal issues.
It can be use to aid recovery from:
- Muscle Tears
- Heel Spurs
- Rotator Cuff Strains
- Wry Neck
- and many more…

IASTM is a soft tissue treatment technique. The doctor or therapist uses either a plastic, metal, or composite tool to treat soft tissue fibrosis, scar tissue, and restrictions.
The treatment may be a little uncomfortable, but it shouldn’t be painful. The technique is designed to break up fibrosed tissue, fibrotic adhesions, and improve blood flow to hypoxic tissues. By causing a small inflammatory reaction, IASTM helps bring cells to the area that can help clean up debris, improve tissue quality, and facilitate the healing process.
Scar tissue is laid down after acute injuries or chronic overload. This tissue is structurally different from the normal tissue around it and is often laid down haphazardly instead of in the direction that motion usually occurs in that tissue. This causes stiffness, hypoxia, and limited range of motion. IASTM is a very effective tool to correct these issues. Need to schedule an appointment? Click Here.
